Sally Acorn

I -- do you see what I see? Is this a comic book character? Huh? Huh? *slapped*

XD I'm kidding. It's a mutant chipmunk...girl...hacker -- er, chipmunk hacker princess. Don't ask. I'm being weird.

I drew Sally! Actually, I've drawn her a few times now, but this was my very first drawing of her back from January. I was leaving it as a sketch since I drew it because I was considering using it for a different reason; however, I believe I have made improvements on drawing her since this that I will probably use instead. So, I just decided to touch it up, ink, and color it to practice her color pallet and such. I didn't fix up the ink digitally very well this time, so it's a bit sloppy. I also tried some other techniques with the coloring (notice the extra shine in her eyes). Sally's a bit more difficult to draw, mostly her facial features, but that's only because I'm new to drawing her. I'll continue improving -- I must!

For the record, I draw Sally like the other female characters instead of that anthro style I've seen her in -- I didn't like it. XD I loved it when I saw BenBates give her a typical Sonic female body build a couple of years back. I also wanted to draw her redesign concept at first, but since this was my first attempt at the time, I gave Sally her old look. I actually like the redesigned clothes on her moreso than just the boots and jacket, but it will be odd to see this look go. The only thing I didn't like about the redesign was that her cheek fuzz was removed (but it's not that bad!). When I drew her again, I threw her redesign clothes on her, but kept her facial features in tact, haha. XD

So yeah, I read the comics, even though I'm more for the games. I've only been reading them off and on for the past couple of years, so I don't know much about them, but I know some of the plot from way back thanks to the internet. I've also watched a small amount of SatAM (even though it doesn't compare to Sonic X, to me). And yes; I like Sally, and her tomboyish personality. I used to be neutral about her, but then she grew on me. ;w; SonAlly has grown on me as well, despite the fact that I am really not that much into Sonic couples, I'm really not. XD;;; Some things about the couple don't always make sense (like the time Sally became angry with Sonic for wanting to fight Robotnik instead of be with her.... I understand how she felt there, but why? ). The comics also could stand having the romance between the two subdued quite a bit. But, personally, I don't see how SonAmy makes sense either with Amy's "Marry me or else!" attitude. That, and I think the couple is overrated.

I don't see how Sally's been morphed into a "Mary-Sue" in the comics, either, but since I haven't read all that much, I guess it is possible that I haven't seen some of it. Though most of the hate I see Sally get is unnecessary and doesn't really carry a valid point ("She's a slut!" "She stole Sonic from Amy!" ect.), even though I've seen it toward Amy as well. (If you think I hate Amy because I don't like SonAmy, you're mistaken: sailormoonandsonicx.deviantart… Lay off of both the girls, will ya?) All in all, the comics have aspects about it that I think would be cool if they were fixed (Sonic's personality being off in cases, but only a few that I really "had problems with"), but I still enjoy reading the comics no matter what anyone else thinks about it. It's Sonic -- when I see Sonic, I like it...typically, anyway.

Is it possible to like the games more than the comics, yet not like SonAmy and prefer SonAlly more? Yes. Yet is it still possible to not hate Amy and agree that Sally and SonAlly is a canon exclusive to the comics and SatAM (even though SonAmy is only truly a bit canon in Sonic X)? Yes. Is it possible to agree that the SonSal romance could be toned down a bit in the comics but is capable of being a decent couple? Yes. Is it possible to like other things about the comics more than the games while still preferring the games, OR liking other things about the games more than the comics, while still liking the co -- okay, you get it. XD YES. You're looking at a person that thinks that way.... (or reading my thoughts in a wall of text, rather? Pffft.)

I love drawing characters and then stating all of my views on controversial topics in the Sonic fanbase. XD Does it makes things interesting? ...If you always read my artists comments, or at least sometimes...I am glad to know it. XDD

Okay~! I think I'm done here. Anyway, how do you think I did with drawing Sally? For this being the first time I had drawn her, I was pretty happy with it. CX Though I'm looking forward to when I work on other drawings of her.
